Thank you for your interest
in Leadership Greater Madison (LGM). Changing opportunities
and challenges in the greater Madison area underscore the need
for able, skilled and informed leadership at every level and
in every sector of our complex civic and economic infrastructure.
Leadership Greater Madison is one of the greater Madison area’s
premier leadership education and training programs designed to
help citizens gain the knowledge and experience they need to
actively participate as civic leaders in their communities.
Through presentations by distinguished community leaders, administrators
and experts as well as a variety of hands-on activities to address
the challenges and opportunities affecting the greater Madison
area, LGM will:
- Enhance participant research, issue management and public advocacy
skills;
- Improve participant understanding of, and engagement with,
specific challenges and opportunities facing our communities;
- Provide participants with meaningful opportunities to network
and interact with each other and with civic leaders from the
greater Madison area; and
- Allow participants to identify and explore opportunities for
civic engagement.
The cost of the 2010 LGM series is $2,500.
Applications will be accepted until April
2, 2010 and selection
will take place by April 7, 2010. The session will run from
April – December
2010.
Application Guidelines
- Applicants must be residents of the greater Madison area and
have worked in the area for at least two years.
- Applicants must either be Civitas graduates, have participated
in a previous LGM session or be able to demonstrate comparable
experience.
- Applicants must commit to attending a minimum
of seven of the nine scheduled sessions and actively participate
in their team activities.
- Applicants must complete and submit the official LGM application.
- The $2,500 tuition* is due upon program acceptance.
Payments not received before April 12, 2010 may jeopardize
placement in 2010 LGM class.
- Checks can be made payable to Leadership Greater Madison and
can be mailed to LGM c/o GMCC, 615 E. Washington Ave., P.O. Box
71, Madison, WI 53701-0071.
*LGM will work with accepted applicants on
tuition assistance upon request.
Program overview
- The 9-month LGM session will include pre-determined
discussion topics surrounding three contemporary issues such
as: consolidation of services, health care, regional transportation
and/or economic development, a skill training component, team
activities and networking opportunities.
- Sessions typically take place on the second
Tuesday of every month.
- Team activities will address timely,
local issues; have measurable outcomes; include research and
presentation components; and will include a “report out” element.
Team activities will be shared with local officials and opinion
leaders for use in development of public policy. LGM team activities
will be an integral component in the search for solutions to
current community challenges.
